The Blue Texel section at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show provided a superb showcase of the breed, with a strong turnout of quality sheep across all classes. Exhibitors presented a high standard of stock throughout the day, giving judge Robert Mawer of the Premier Flock, plenty to consider as he worked through the classes.
The male championship line-up was headed by Anthony Carter, whose outstanding Shearling Ram Derg Kingston JSA/25/01877 claimed first place in a particularly competitive class before going on to secure the Male Championship. Standing in Reserve was the impressive Ram Lamb Look Again Levi LKA/26/01464 from Michelle and Austen Lockyer, winner of his class. Charlotte Hocken’s Brutey’s Blues Jack of All Trades PDB/24/09105 topped the Aged Ram class with.
The female section was equally strong, with Charlotte Hocken’s stylish Shearling Ewe Westwood Kim K LEG/25/02307 taking top honours in her class before being awarded Female Champion. The ewe, praised for her balance, breed character and overall presence, continued her winning streak by being named Breed Champion. Reserve Female Champion and ultimately Reserve Breed Champion was awarded to Michelle and Austen Lockyer’s quality Shearling Ewe, Look Again Kelly LKA/25/01276 which had stood second in the class.
Michelle and Austen Lockyer enjoyed an exceptional day in the show ring, securing victories in the Aged Ewe, Ram Lamb and Ewe Lamb classes, while also taking first place in the Group of Three.
