Show Report for BALMORAL SHOW 2024

Knockmult Hope takes the glory at Balmoral

Congratulations to all who brought out their stock and promoted the breed at Balmoral. It was a great show of sheep!

We would like to thank Hamish Currie for doing a great, professional job judging our classes. Thanks must also go to Heather Pritchard and Lucie Graham, Blue Texel Sheep Society and the Balmoral show stewards. Report as follows (1st-3rd/4th placings)

Aged Rams

1st place - G Piggott – Derg Gregor. Gregor was also placed first in his class at last year’s Balmoral show as a shearling ram. He’s out of the 5000gns Sunnybank Escobar and Derg Coco Chanel.

2nd place - Samantha Hamilton –Innishmore Georgie Boy, sired by Cleenagh Father Jack, many congratulations to Samantha on her first time showing at Balmoral at only 17 years old.

3rd place - A Cowan – TUL23 04971, by Sunnybank Excalibur

 

Ram lambs

1st place - Janet and Andy Carson – Little Whisker Jafar, by Hackney All Gold ram out of Little Whiskers Cora. Cora was Reserve Champion at the Ni National Show 2019. Jafar will be available for sale as part of the Shades of Spring Online sale Janet is running with H&H Carlisle from 7-9th June.

2nd place - Russell Millen and Seamus Killen – Knockmult Joker, he is an embryo lamb out of 5000gns Sunnybank Escobar. Joker’s dam is Derg Fantasy, who also bred the 1st prize ewe lamb at the Royal Highland Show 2023. He will also be available for sale in the Shades of Spring online sale.

3rd place – William and Lynda Bradley – Drumenagh Jorginio - out of brother Lesley’s ram, Sunnybank Fireball.

4th place – N Flanagan – Vermont Jack The Lad, by Beili Blues Gunpowder. He’s a January born lamb and will be available for sale in June along with a selection of full sisters.

 

 

Aged Ewe

1st place - G Piggot – Lisbane Gina, sired by Beili Blues Euphoric, out of Cleenagh Cherry-blossom.

 

Gimmers

A big class of gimmers which our judge Hamish noted was the best class of the day for the breed.

1st place - Russell Millen & Seamus Killen – Knockmult Hope RWM/23/02941 – Hope is also by Derg Fantasy and this time the sire is Drumard Ed. Ed bred many show winners and sale toppers, including the dearest Blue Texel sheep bred in NI - Matts Fittest, sold for 20,000gns Carlisle 2021

2nd place - Russell Millen & Seamus Killen – Knockmult Heaven RWM/23/02997 - Matts Firetrap x Derg Faye, Faye was purchased for 5000gns after being placed Carlisle Champion 2022

3rd place - Aly Shortt – Woodview Honey WDV/23/00078, her dam Woodview Flossy was the NI National Show Champion in 2022, and she’s sired by 30,000gns Sunnybank Fergus II.

4th place - Allen Shortt & Samantha Allen – Derg Haven JSA/23/01268 – a Matts Firetrap x Derg Enigma daughter. Firetrap has bred numerous show winners and sale toppers for Samantha and Allen including the 11,000gns Derg GI Joe.

 

Ewe lambs

1st place - Aly Shortt – WDV24 00103, out of Beili Blues Hulk and her dam was National Show NI Winner 2023, a full sister to Flossy.

2nd place - S Allen & A Shortt – JSA24 01570, out of Beili Blues Hulk

3rd place - S Allen & A Shortt – JSA24 01571, out of Beili Blues Hulk, she will be available for sale in the Shades of Spring online sale 4th place - Russell Millen and Seamus Killen – Knockmult Joanna RWM24 03103 - out of Sunnybank Escobar and Derg Fantasy, same way bred as Knockmult Joker. Joanna will be available to purchase in the Shades of Spring online sale.

 

New classes this year for Male and Female Champions (kindly sponsored by the Blue Texel sheep society) which were awarded to the 1st prize Ram lamb - A & J Carson and the 1st prize Gimmer – Russell Millen and Seamus Killen.

Overall Champion  was the 1st prize Gimmer Knockmult Hope and Reserve Overall was the 2nd prize gimmer Knockmult Heaven, both Russell Millen and Seamus Killen.
