The Great Yorkshire Show once again provided a superb showcase for the breed, with an excellent standard of sheep presented throughout the classes. Judging duties were undertaken by Martin Sivill, from the Glanrafon Flock near St Asaph, who praised the overall quality and depth of competition.
The day began with the Aged Ram class, where Victoria Bowring claimed first place with Wind-Mill Hurricane VGB/23/01132, a powerful and correct ram that went on to secure the Male Championship.
In the Shearling Ram class, Victoria Bowring continued her successful day by taking the top spot with Wind-Mill Kickstart VGB/25/01273, ahead of Prew in second and Cormack & McDowell in third. The remaining placings went to K Smith, J & A Gargett, and R & J Bett.
The Ram Lamb class was won by Richard & Jade Bett with Yarburgh Lucky Star YAR/26/01131, an outstanding young ram that impressed the judge with its quality and promise, earning the Reserve Male Championship. Cormack & McDowell finished second, followed by B Stayt, J Bailey, J Yardley, and J & A Gargett.
The female section opened with the Aged Ewe class, where William Nicholls topped the line-up with Glyncoch GLY/24/02337. R & J Bett were second, Cormack & McDowell third, followed by J Whiteford, J Bailey, and J Yardley.
A particularly strong Shearling Ewe class saw Victoria Bowring take first prize with Knockmult KitKat RWM/25/03261, a stylish ewe combining correctness, femininity and excellent breed character. H Dean was second, with N Millar in third.
The Ewe Lamb class was headed by R & J Bett with Yarburgh Lucky Charm YAR/26/01130, an eye-catching lamb that later secured the Reserve Female Championship and Reserve Overall Champion.
In the Pairs competition, Cormack & McDowell took the honours ahead of R & J Bett and V Bowring, with J Bailey, J & A Gargett, and B Stayt completing the line-up. The Group of Three title went to J Bailey, ahead of B Stayt in second and Cormack & McDowell in third. J Whiteford finished fourth, followed by W Nicholls.
For the championships, Victoria Bowring’s impressive Aged Ram awarded Male Champion, with Richard & Jade Bett’s Ram Lamb taking the Reserve Male Championship. In the female championship, Victoria Bowring’s Shearling Ewe stood at the top of an outstanding line-up to claim the Female Championship, while Richard & Jade Bett’s Ewe Lamb was awarded Reserve Female Champion.
The Overall Championship saw judge Martin Sivill select Victoria Bowring’s Shearling Ewe Knockmult KitKat as the Overall Champion, praising her balance, correctness and exceptional breed quality. R & J Bett’s Ewe Lamb Yarburgh Lucky Charm was a worthy Reserve Overall Champion, rounding off a highly competitive day of judging at the Great Yorkshire Show.
