Ram lamb Ty Gwyn Lionel Ritchie hit all the right notes when taking the day’s top price of 3000gns at Blue Texel Sheep Society’s sale, Welshpool.
This trade topper from G and L Davies, Fishguard, is by Matt’s Hitman and out of a homebred dam by Nantyderri Finest. He sold to join Rhys Cooke’s Nantyderri flock, Abergavenny.
Next in line in the males at 1100gns was shearling ram Pistyll Keegan from the Francis family. He’s by the homebred Pistyll Grand Slam and out of a dam by an imported sire and sold to join G C and C A Morgan, Newtown.
Then making 1000gns was the male champion from the pre-sale show, shearling ram Blackstone King Kong from Iestyn Evans. Bred by Charlotte Eardsworth, this one is by Auchmantle Great Scot and out of a dam by Sunnybank Fire Ball. He was bought by R A Thomas, Llandeilo.
Females
Topping the female trade at 1800gns was shearling ewe Starlight KitKat from Kevin Jones. This one had been reserve female and reserve overall champion in the pre-sale show and is by Drumard Ed and out of a dam by Brutey’s Blues Fred. She sold to join the Statesman flock of Ben Stayt, Gloucestershire, who backed his judgement from the pre-sale show.
The female and overall champion, another shearling ewe, TGT/25/15888, from the Ty Gwyn flock of G and L Davies then sold at the next best call of 1550gns. She’s by Stephick High Flyer and out of a dam by Little Whisker Bagheera and also sold to Ben Stayt.
Next in line at 1250gns was ewe lamb Ty Gwyn Lana Del Ray, again from G and L Davies. She’s by Matt’s Hitman and out of the same Nantyderri Finest-sired dam as the day’s top price earner. Having been first in the pre-sale show, she heads north to join the Ettrick flock of David and Claire Gray, Selkirk.
And making 1050gns was another shearling ewe, Ty Gwyn Kilimanjaro from the Davies family. This Matt’s Hitman daughter is out of a dam by a Brefi sire and was the pick of D G and E M Clarke, Newtown, Powys.
