The Devon County Show once again provided an excellent showcase for the Blue Texel breed, with a strong entry of quality sheep exhibited across all sections. Judging was carried out by Joe Burnett of the Stonycroft flock, who has been involved with Blue Texels since 2007 and now runs a flock of around 60 Blue Texels. He praised the overall consistency, correctness, and breed character seen throughout the day’s judging.
Ben Stayt enjoyed a successful show, winning the Aged Ram class with Tubsies Jackpot TUB/24/0009 before later going on to secure the Overall Male Championship. Anthony Carter stood at the top of the Shearling Ram class with Derg Kingston JSA/25/01877 and was subsequently awarded Reserve Male Champion. Columbpark & Sapphire Livestock led the Ram Lamb class with SAP/26/322 and also dominated the Aged Ewe section, taking both first and second places.
The standout performance of the day came from Abbie Digweed in the Shearling Ewe class, where she secured both first and second place. Her winning Shearling Ewe, Tooloos Keep on Moving TOD/25/140, went on to claim the Overall Female Championship before later being tapped out as Overall Breed Champion. Columbpark & Sapphire Livestock’s winning Aged Ewe Sapphire Golddigger SAP/22/00176 followed closely behind, taking both Reserve Female Champion and Reserve Breed Champion honours.
In the Ewe Lamb class, Sarah Chambers headed a strong lineup with CXS/26/1471, while the Group of Three competition was won by Ben Stayt ahead of Austen & Michelle Lockyer and Sarah Chambers.
Overall, the Devon County Show highlighted the continued strength and depth of the Blue Texel breed, with quality stock shown throughout the classes and strong competition across both the male and female championships.
