The breed classes at this year’s Royal Welsh Show attracted a strong line-up of quality sheep, with judging expertly carried out by Matthew Burleigh of Enniskillen, who praised the depth of quality across the sections and the excellent presentation of the exhibits.
The day began with the Aged Ram class, where Victoria Bowring claimed first prize with Wind-Mill Hurricane, sired by Nantyderri Elfred. Blackstone Blues took second prize with Blackstone Jägermeister, a son of Auchmantle Hulk.
In the Shearling Ram class, Geraint Williams took top honours with Dragon Keith, a ram sired by Jems Jackpot that would go on to secure the Male Championship. Llyr Davies stood second with Caryl’s Blues King Kong, followed by Ella Sankey’s Trisant Kaboom in third.
The Ram Lamb class was another strong section, with Geraint Williams once again taking first place with Dragon Lion, out of a homebred Dragon sire. Nick Legge was second with Westwood Lightning, followed by Dylan Jones with Beili Blues Lord of the Ring.
In the Aged Ewe class, Geraint Williams continued his successful day by taking first prize with Dragon Jasmine, again out of a homebred sire. Adrian, Ifan & Harri Davies secured second place, with Nick & Kayley Gill taking third with Nikay Gypsy.
The Shearling Ewe class saw Victoria Bowring head the line-up with Knockmult KitKat, a daughter of Matt’s Jupiter, ahead of Dave Roberts in second with Boyo Kylie. Geraint Williams claimed third with Dragon Ktwo.
The final class of the day, the Ewe Lamb class, produced the day’s standout exhibit. Geraint Williams won the class with Dragon Lucky, ahead of Nick & Kayley Gill’s Nikay Little Miss Naughty and Jamie Jerman’s Titanium Lightning Lass. This impressive first-prize ewe lamb was awarded the Female Championship before being selected by judge Matthew Burleigh as the Overall Champion.
The Group of Three competition rounded off the judging, with Geraint Williams taking the Championship and Adrian, Ifan & Harri Davies being awarded Reserve Championship
