The Blue Texel English National Show attracted a strong entry of sheep, with judge Henry Jewitt faced with the difficult task of selecting his champions from a high-quality line-up.
Competition opened with the male classes, where B Stayt claimed the Aged Ram class with TUB/24/00009. The Shearling Ram section was headed by Burnett & Lloyd’s STS/25/01178, while the standout Ram Lamb class saw B Stayt’s TAB/26/01231 rise to the top of a particularly strong field.
The female classes were equally competitive. W Nicholls secured first place in the Aged Ewe class with GLY/24/02337, while D Roberts made a significant impact in the Shearling Ewe section, winning with BOY/25/01630. Roberts continued this success in the Ewe Lamb class, taking first place with BOY/26/01746.
The inter-flock competitions highlighted the consistency and depth of quality within exhibitors’ teams. B Stayt enjoyed a dominant performance, winning the Group of Three Lambs, Pairs and Group of Three competitions.
When the championships were judged, B Stayt’s exceptional Ram Lamb TAB/26/01231 stood out amongst the younger stock, securing both Best Lamb and Male Champion. N Legge’s impressive Ram Lamb LEG/26/03201 followed closely to take the reserve positions in both championships.
In the female championship, D Roberts enjoyed a memorable day as the Shearling Ewe BOY/25/01630 claimed Female Champion, while flockmate BOY/26/01746 secured Reserve Female Champion.
The Overall Championship came down to a final showdown between the leading male and female exhibits. Judge Henry Jewitt ultimately selected D Roberts’ stylish and powerful Shearling Ewe, BOY/25/01630, as Overall Champion of the Blue Texel English National Show. Standing Reserve Overall Champion was B Stayt’s outstanding Ram Lamb TAB/26/01231, capping an excellent day for both exhibitors.
